    "Photosynthesizing" Manila, My Manila

Imagine looking at a 3D rendition of a place in Manila, My Manila that was created using thousands of still pictures taken by anybody that were made available on The New Web. Imagine being capable of producing such three-dimensional versions of any place by yourself using only an advanced software.

All these without even have to wait for that time when we can view in 3D all of Manila's buildings and structures shown in Google Earth's satellite image (because users have already uploaded Google SketchUp models and recreated the whole city structure in 3D.)

This new technology is called Photosynth, something from Microsoft that is unusually promising nowadays:

"Photosynth is an amazing new technology from Microsoft Live Labs that will change forever the way you think about digital photos. (It) takes a large collection of photos of a place or an object, analyzes them for similarities, and displays them in a reconstructed three-dimensional space."

Learn more about Photosynth by watching more videos here.

And, yes, do pray that Microsoft will not botch a project as nice as this one.
